HierbaBuena is not visited — it is lived in. It is the coolness of centuries-old walls, the breeze rising from the rambla to the porch and a silence that barely exists anymore. A place where time, at last, stands still.

    The heart of an estate

    On the banks of a rambla rose the heart of a large farming and livestock estate. Stone walls, timber beams and fields of wild mint that would one day give it its name.

    An unhurried restoration

    A writer from Madrid fell in love with the place and led a meticulous restoration that respected every wall and every beam, returning the cortijo's stately air.

    Since then, several generations of one family have looked after the house, its objects and its silence, as one guards a legacy.

Our isotype is a faithful portrait of the cortijo. Explore its details — each one holds part of the story.

  1. The roof

    Beneath the clay tiles rest the original roof beams, silent witnesses to two centuries of history.

  2. The windows

    Measured openings, as southern architecture demands: they keep the house cool in summer and frame the eastern light.

  3. The walls

    Stone more than a metre thick that keeps the house cool and calm, just as it did two centuries ago.

  4. The arched door

    The threshold of the cortijo. Crossing it begins a journey back in time, towards tradition and respect.

  5. The clay jar

    A nod to the farming and livestock life that once gave the estate its purpose.
